Ch 23

Hello all!
The radio certainly is significant - it is Jefferson's link to the outside world. Miss Emma, Tante Lou and the Reverend don't understand its significance. They are just angry that Jefferson seems to prefer staying in his cell with his radio rather than come and visit with them.

The Reverend is a simple, uneducated man. He thinks the radio is a "sin box". He thinks Jefferson should spend his remaining time praying and accepting Jesus so he can get to heaven. Grant is a little more sophisticated, and understands Jefferson has to accept himself first. When he can learn to love and accept himself, then maybe he can accept his fate........and become a man. He has no control over his circumstances, but he does have control over his attitude.
